LISBON, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese President Antonio Jose Seguro on Tuesday condemned the clashes and violence at weekend demonstrations, particularly in Lisbon, and called on the government, parliament and political parties to stop blaming one another and find concrete solutions to the housing crisis.
"Stop the blame game. Everyone has responsibilities," Seguro said in a statement criticizing the lack of political dialogue.
Seguro, who had not commented publicly on the issue for about a week, said he had followed the situation and had requested information from the competent authorities, adding that he urged the parties and the government to reach an understanding last week.
Seguro said the protests were discussed at his meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Luis Montenegro.
Seguro announced that he has convened the parties for a meeting on Oct. 29, has already held a session of the Council of State, with plans to meet housing experts.
He also admitted that the law on demonstrations, in force since 1974, could be the subject of parliamentary debate. ■
