CAIRO, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi discussed regional developments and de-escalation efforts in a phone call on Tuesday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

The two ministers discussed possible ways to address the latest regional developments, while Abdelatty stressed the importance of all parties playing their part in easing tensions amid increasingly alarming signs.

The phone call came a day after senior officials from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye met in Tehran and agreed to continue talks to strengthen cooperation on regional peace and security.

Referring to the Tehran meeting, Abdelatty expressed "Egypt's full support for all efforts being made to contain tensions and prevent a slide into a larger crisis."

The two ministers also discussed continued regional consultations between Iran and the Regional Four ministerial mechanism, comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday raised the prospect of renewed military strikes against Iran. "We may do another little Epic Fury," Trump said, referring to the large-scale U.S. military operation against Iran launched on Feb. 28 alongside a coordinated Israeli offensive.

The phone call also followed Monday's decision by Egypt's parliament to authorize President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to take necessary measures to support and defend Saudi Arabia against external attacks, amid escalating hostilities between the kingdom and Yemen's Houthi group. ■
