BERLIN, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Four to five people were injured late Monday after a car was driven into a crowd in Neustadt am Ruebenberge, near Hanover, Germany, local media reported early Tuesday.
Some of the victims were seriously injured and taken to hospital, but none were in a life-threatening condition, German news agency dpa reported, citing a police spokeswoman.
Police officers conducting a routine traffic check nearby became aware of the incident shortly before midnight and fired at the vehicle to stop it. The suspects fled on foot, leaving the car behind.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear. Preliminary investigations suggested the people involved knew each other and that the suspects apparently targeted the group deliberately rather than at random, said the spokeswoman.
Many police officers and a helicopter were deployed in response to the car ramming incident, and investigations are underway. ■
