Jining City in China's Shandong is turning compact construction machinery into a big export business. Local manufacturers are tapping into overseas demand for mini excavators and other small-scale equipment, combining cost advantages with product innovation. In the first three quarters of this year, exports of small construction machinery and related products from Jining reached 10.8 billion yuan (about 1.62 billion U.S. dollars), up 39% year on year.■
