JAKARTA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is considering building a nuclear power plant in Batam, Riau Islands province, to strengthen national energy security, said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia on Monday.
Bahlil said the proposed project in Batam remains under study and feasibility calculation, adding that the government will proceed with the plan if the feasibility study meets the required criteria.
He said aside from Batam, the government is also studying several candidate sites in Kalimantan and Sumatra.
No final decision has been made on the location for the nuclear power plant, as the outcome will depend on the ongoing feasibility studies, Bahlil said. ■
