RIYADH, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The sixth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, originally scheduled for November this year in Riyadh, have been postponed to March 28-April 8, 2027, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the local organizing committee announced on Monday.
The new dates were confirmed following a review of organizational and logistical arrangements in coordination with National Olympic Committees (NOCs), stakeholders and partners, according to a joint statement.
The new schedule aims to align calendars and operational arrangements and ensure the broadest possible participation by eligible NOCs, the statement said.
The OCA and the local organizing committee, in coordination with the relevant Saudi authorities, said preparations were proceeding as planned, with more than 4,500 athletes expected to compete.
The Games, which retain the name "Riyadh 2026," will be the first OCA multi-sport event held in Saudi Arabia. Organizers said the event would support Saudi Vision 2030 goals by encouraging sports participation, developing talent and strengthening the country's position as a destination for major sporting events. ■
