SINGAPORE, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's manufacturing output rose 3.4 percent year on year in September, the Singapore Economic Development Board said Monday.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, manufacturing output fell 3.9 percent.

All manufacturing clusters except chemicals and biomedical manufacturing recorded year-on-year output growth. Precision engineering led the gains, rising 31 percent on higher production of semiconductor equipment in the machinery and systems segment.

Biomedical manufacturing output fell 32.8 percent, driven by a different mix of active pharmaceutical ingredients produced in the pharmaceuticals segment. Output in the medical technology segment also declined amid softer export demand.

Chemicals output fell 4.6 percent, weighed down by declines in the other chemicals and petrochemicals segments. The other chemicals segment recorded lower fragrance production, while petrochemicals output remained constrained by softer demand and feedstock supply disruptions. ■
