AMMAN, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian security forces arrested three gunmen who carried out an attack on a church in the southern governorate of Karak, the Public Security Directorate said Monday.
The suspects were arrested early Monday following an armed clash that left all three injured, while no security personnel were hurt, the directorate said in a statement.
Specialized joint investigation and raid teams, along with other security agencies, located the suspects after sustained search operations, the statement said.
The three men hid in an abandoned house in Karak before opening fire on security forces, resulting in a gunfight and their arrest, it added.
Security forces also seized a number of firearms and ammunition after searching the house, it added.
The directorate reiterated its commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding the country's security and the safety of its citizens, stressing that it would firmly deal with anyone seeking to undermine Jordan's security and stability.
The attack took place last Friday when gunmen opened fire on people attending a funeral at a church in Karak, killing nine people and injuring at least 34 others. ■
