ISLAMABAD, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Seven members of the same family were killed and seven others injured when their vehicle plunged into a ravine and caught fire in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Monday, state-owned Rescue 1122 said.
The accident occurred in Murree district when 14 people, including women, children and elderly people, were travelling in the vehicle after attending a wedding ceremony, the Rescue 1122 said in a statement.
The van lost control due to overspeeding and struck a roadside safety barrier, causing its fuel tank to burst, the statement added.
The leaking petrol ignited, engulfing the vehicle in flames within seconds.
Seven people died from severe burn injuries, while the other seven sustained burns, the report said.
The injured were shifted to hospitals for treatment, where several of them are said to be in critical condition, the statement added. ■
