SYDNEY, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- One person has died and three others have been hospitalized with serious injuries after a car crashed following an off-road race in the desert of Western Australia (WA).

The WA police force said on Monday that the sedan lost control and rolled while driving on an unsealed section of the race track on Sunday afternoon following the completion of the Kalgoorlie Desert Race.

The 20-year-old driver of the vehicle died at the scene.

Three passengers, a 60-year-old woman and two girls aged 14 and 12, were all taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The desert race, staged more than 500 km east of Perth, was first held in 2017 and is part of the Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship.

Investigators from the major crash unit have commenced an investigation into the incident and asked for anyone who attended the race and saw the vehicle prior to the crash to come forward. ■
