LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The United States has reported 4,588 confirmed measles cases so far in 2026, more than twice the total for all of 2025, according to the latest data released Friday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Of the confirmed cases, 4,570 were reported by 47 jurisdictions, while 18 involved international visitors to the United States, the CDC said.
Children and adolescents aged 5 to 19 accounted for the largest share of cases, with 1,914 infections, or 42 percent of the total.
A total of 479 patients, about 10 percent of all confirmed cases, have been hospitalized.
About 96 percent of cases involved people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown, according to the CDC data.
In Pennsylvania, the measles outbreak continued to expand, with 78 new cases reported over the past seven days, according to data released Friday by the state's Department of Health. The state has recorded 1,338 cases across 44 counties, accounting for nearly 30 percent of the U.S. total.
