CAIRO, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Arab League on Friday condemned an attack on a church in Jordan's Karak Governorate that left civilians dead and injured, expressing solidarity with the kingdom.
In a statement, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said that targeting places of worship is an unacceptable "terrorist act" and a flagrant violation of human values.
Fahmy reaffirmed the organization's full support for Jordan in confronting the attack.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi offered his condolences to Jordan's King Abdullah II and the Jordanian people over the victims of what he described as a "treacherous terrorist attack."
"Egypt fully condemns these horrendous acts, which violate all human values," Sisi said in a presidency statement.
Seven people were killed and 34 others injured in a shooting attack during a funeral in Jordan's southern governorate of Karak, the Jordanian Public Security Directorate said Friday.
A spokesperson for the directorate said the criminal act was carried out by unidentified individuals, noting that investigations were underway. ■
