DOHA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Qatar's state-owned energy company QatarEnergy has signed two long-term agreements with the largest U.S. gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter Cheniere Energy to purchase up to 4 million tonnes of LNG annually, QatarEnergy announced Thursday.
Under the sale and purchase agreements, QatarEnergy will source LNG from Cheniere's Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana and Corpus Christi facility in Texas, the company said in a statement.
Deliveries are expected to begin in 2031 and run through 2054 on a free-on-board basis, meaning QatarEnergy will handle shipping from the U.S. loading ports.
The agreements were signed by Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, who is also the president and CEO of QatarEnergy, and Cheniere Energy Chairman and CEO Jack Fusco.
QatarEnergy said the agreements reflected its confidence in LNG's long-term role in the global energy mix and its efforts to build a more flexible, diversified and competitive international LNG portfolio. ■
