KABUL, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics police have confiscated 1,209 kg of illicit drugs and arrested 11 suspected traffickers across several provinces, the office of the Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter-Narcotics said in separate statements on Thursday.
Personnel conducted a series of operations on the outskirts of Nangarhar, Takhar, Balkh, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Nimroz and Ghazni provinces, as well as in the capital Kabul. The raids recovered narcotics including opium, hashish and other illicit substances, according to the office.
All 11 suspects have been taken into custody and handed over to the judiciary, with their case files submitted for further legal proceedings.
The Afghan government has markedly intensified its nationwide campaign against the narcotics trade, systematically targeting traffickers, cultivators and production networks. ■
