DHAKA, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh and Algeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of hydrocarbons to ensure the energy security of Bangladesh.
Bangladeshi Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmood and Algerian Minister for Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides in Algeria on Tuesday, according to a press release issued by the Bangladeshi ministry.
They also discussed different aspects of energy cooperation, particularly the import of liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas and other petroleum products from Algeria to Bangladesh under a government-to-government mechanism.
The agreement comes as Bangladesh strives to diversify its energy supply network amid its growing dependence on imported fuels to meet domestic demand. ■
