KABUL, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security personnel have rescued an abducted schoolchild from the clutches of kidnappers in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, provincial police spokesman Asadullah Jamshidi announced on Wednesday.
The child was abducted while en route from home to school in Police District 7 of Kandahar city, the provincial capital. The perpetrators subsequently issued a substantial ransom demand for his release, Jamshidi said.
Acting on intelligence pinpointing the kidnappers' hideout, security forces carried out an operation, rescuing the child unharmed and apprehending three suspected kidnappers, the official added.
The suspected kidnappers have been handed over to judicial authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.
This marks the third such incident in recent days in Afghanistan. ■
