OSLO, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday to present points developed during talks on Ukraine in Oslo, Norwegian broadcaster NRK reported Tuesday.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb said the diplomatic process was "back on track" following the Oslo meetings also attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and U.S. envoys.
"There has been a lot of noise in the public space, but on a technical level we feel that the negotiations are going quite well," Stubb told a joint press conference with Zelensky and Store.
The meetings, organized at Ukraine's request, aimed to develop elements of a peace proposal that could be presented to Russia.
Witkoff attended in person, while Jared Kushner participated remotely. Representatives of Britain, France, Germany, Poland, the European Union and NATO also joined the broader meeting online.
Store described the discussions as constructive, saying they covered Ukraine's security, postwar reconstruction, territorial issues, sanctions and the European security order.
Stubb said participants discussed longer-term elements concerning security and economic issues, as well as more immediate priorities, including air defense, energy infrastructure and a partial ceasefire related to energy and food security.
Zelensky said discussions with the U.S. envoys were important and reiterated that Ukraine wanted peace. He said Ukraine had immediately supported a U.S. proposal for an energy ceasefire, but accused Russia of continuing attacks.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said Norway has been supporting and advising Ukraine rather than acting as a mediator. Decisions on Ukraine's positions were for Ukraine itself to make, he added. ■
