SINGAPORE, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- About 87.1 percent of Singaporeans expect domestic and global economic developments to push inflation higher over the next 12 months, down slightly from 87.7 percent in June, according to a survey released Tuesday.
The Singapore Index of Inflation Expectations Survey, conducted in September by DBS Group Research and Singapore Management University based on 510 respondents, found that only 3.9 percent expected these developments to lower inflation, compared with 4.3 percent in June.
Among respondents who anticipated higher inflation, 59 percent cited geopolitical uncertainties and conflicts involving Hamas and Israel, Russia and Ukraine, and Iran and Israel as the main reasons.
Another 14.2 percent pointed to increased uncertainty over trade policies, including tariffs, while 11.3 percent cited supply chain disruptions.
Meanwhile, average one-year-ahead headline inflation expectations remained unchanged at 3.4 percent in September from June. ■
