KABUL, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Counter-narcotics police foiled an attempt to smuggle 312 kg of opium-type illegal drugs and arrested two suspected smugglers in the northern Afghan province of Badakhshan on Monday, according to a statement from the provincial police office on Tuesday.
The suspects were attempting to transport the contraband by car from Kasham district to an unknown destination, the statement said.
Police intercepted the vehicle during a routine inspection and recovered the narcotics. Both suspects were taken into custody for further investigation, the statement added.
