BAGHDAD, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi anti-drug forces seized 50 kg of Captagon pills and arrested a drug dealer in the country's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The operation was carried out by anti-narcotics directorates in northern provinces of Nineveh and Sulaymaniyah, according to the statement.
The operation underscores the firm resolve of security agencies in confronting drug traffickers, highlighting that joint coordination and the integration of efforts are essential pillars in combating this scourge and protecting society from its dangers, it said.
Years of chaos and conflict following the 2003 U.S.-led invasion have hindered Iraq's efforts to combat narcotics. The Iraqi government has stated that drug trafficking remains a key source of funding for terrorism and organized crime. ■
