MAPUTO, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The 26th Chinese medical team to Mozambique held a free medical consultation event on Saturday in Matola, Maputo Province, southern Mozambique, providing healthcare services to local residents, promoting traditional Chinese medicine and distributing free medicines.

The event brought together Chinese medical professionals and healthcare workers from Maputo Central Hospital, offering services in various specialties, including orthopedics, plastic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology.

Chinese doctors provided residents with medical examinations, diagnoses and consultations, offered medical advice based on patients' needs, and distributed medicines free of charge. The team also introduced traditional Chinese medicine practices to residents.

Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Zheng Xuan described the event as a vivid example of the longstanding friendship between China and Mozambique, saying that China would continue to support the development of Mozambique's healthcare system, deepen medical exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, and bring greater benefits to their peoples.

Chen Jialei, head of the 26th Chinese medical team to Mozambique, said that over the past year, the team has conducted free medical consultations in Maputo, Matola, Gaza Province and other areas, providing healthcare services to 523 people and distributing medicines across 11 categories.

Chen noted that this year marks the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, adding that the Chinese medical team would continue to combine traditional Chinese and Western medicine, deepen cooperation in clinical services and healthcare, and strengthen the training of local medical professionals to help improve primary healthcare services in Mozambique and benefit more residents.

China began dispatching medical teams to Mozambique in 1976, with this year marking the 50th anniversary of the medical cooperation initiative. ■
