ISTANBUL, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Two people were missing after flash floods swept away a car in Istanbul overnight, as heavy rainfall hit the Turkish city for a second time in recent days, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sunday.
The downpour caused a stream to overflow in the Pendik district on the Asian side of the city, sweeping away a car carrying three people. One passenger escaped with minor injuries and was hospitalized, while the other two remain missing, the report said.
Search and rescue teams are conducting operations at three locations to locate the missing people and the vehicle.
The latest incident brings the number of missing people in Istanbul to five, while earlier flooding on Wednesday left six people dead across Istanbul and neighboring Kocaeli province, according to local authorities. Precipitation in some areas reached the highest levels recorded since 1942. ■
