YANGON, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Melodies of Chinese songs and graceful dance performances filled the National Theater in Yangon on Saturday, as the Myanmar Chinese Song Competition 2026 held its awarding ceremony, bringing together Chinese song enthusiasts from across Myanmar.

Organized by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, the competition attracted growing interest, with nationwide participation reaching 27,000 this year.

For Kaung Khant Aung, 16, who won first prize in the youth category, the competition marked a rewarding milestone. Having learned Chinese since he was six, he said he practices singing every day.

"This is my second time participating. I didn't win a prize in my first competition, but this time I won first prize," he said.

"Through Chinese songs, we can learn about Chinese history, traditions and arts. Songs connect people around the world and help them relax," he said.

Aye Nant Thar Aung, 28, who won second prize in the adult category in her first competition, said she had studied Chinese for about two years.

Although learning Chinese can sometimes be challenging, she finds songs and dramas helpful in improving her language skills.

"If you don't feel like studying, listen to songs and watch dramas," she said, adding that learning Chinese could open up more opportunities for young people and help strengthen friendship between the two countries.

Ah May, 22, who traveled from Shan State to compete for the first time, won third prize in the adult category. Despite transportation difficulties, she said the experience allowed her to meet people from different regions and learn from other performers.

"Beyond singing, the competition offers Chinese language learners an opportunity to learn, share and build friendships. So, I am very proud to be part of this event," she said.

Founded in 2024, the Myanmar Chinese Song Competition aims to showcase the charm of the Chinese language, foster mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Myanmar and China through singing events and cultural exchange.■
