TOKYO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The No. 2 reactor at the Onagawa nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan was shut down Saturday to replace a leaking valve in water supply-related equipment, local media reported.

Tohoku Electric Power Co., the plant's operator, expects to restart the reactor in Miyagi Prefecture in about 10 days, Kyodo News reported.

The utility said Thursday that a small amount of water had leaked from the valve and that it planned to temporarily shut down the reactor to carry out repairs.

No abnormal radiation levels have been detected in the area surrounding the plant, according to the reports. ■
