BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Global Alliance for Traditional and Integrative Medicine was established Saturday in Beijing as the first international non-profit, non-governmental scientific organization dedicated to traditional medicine.

The alliance, whose secretariat is based in Beijing, was launched at the World Conference on Traditional Medicine 2026, which opened Saturday.

The alliance aims to promote international exchanges, scientific and technological cooperation, capacity building and common development in traditional, complementary and integrative medicine, helping traditional medicine better contribute to human health.

It has so far attracted 117 organizations and individuals from 19 countries and regions, according to the conference.

Membership includes social organizations, universities, research institutes, healthcare institutions, businesses, experts and youth networks involved in traditional medicine.

The alliance will focus on academic exchanges, scientific research, policy studies, standards and terminology, education and training, young talent development, knowledge protection and sharing, industrial cooperation, and international outreach.

The initiative to establish the alliance was proposed at the World Conference on Traditional Medicine 2024. ■
