ISLAMABAD, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan recorded a current account deficit of 356 million U.S. dollars in September, compared with a deficit of 73 million dollars in August, according to central bank data released Friday.
The country had recorded a surplus of 133 million dollars in September last year.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) revised the August deficit down to 73 million dollars from an earlier estimate of 98 million dollars.
The deficit in September came as imports rose faster than exports. The country's total exports of goods and services increased by more than 15 percent year on year to 3.95 billion dollars, compared with 3.42 billion dollars in September 2025, the SBP data showed.
Meanwhile, imports rose by more than 23 percent year on year to 7.38 billion dollars in September, up from 5.99 billion dollars a year earlier.
Workers' remittances reached 3.59 billion dollars during the month, an increase of nearly 13 percent from 3.18 billion dollars in September 2025.
During the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, covering July to September, Pakistan's current account deficit widened to 874 million dollars, up nearly 16 percent from 755 million dollars in the same period of the previous fiscal year. ■
