LONDON, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Former British Business Secretary Vince Cable has expressed optimism about the prospects for China-Britain relations, highlighting shared interests in tackling climate change and maintaining international institutions for trade and finance.
"I think our government in Britain is very keen to keep relationships with China on a good level," Cable told Xinhua on Friday on the sidelines of the inaugural United Excellence Alliance (UEA) Annual Summit in London.
Cable said the two countries have many common interests despite differences and difficulties in their relations. He stressed the importance of maintaining personal connections, academic exchanges and research collaboration to support bilateral ties.
Held in central London, the event brought together representatives from China, Britain, Commonwealth countries and the Gulf region. Discussions covered artificial intelligence, robotics, green technologies, international brand development, cross-border investment and business partnerships.
"Our event aims to bring together business leaders, entrepreneurs and investors from different countries, helping them build connections, share ideas and explore new opportunities for international cooperation, especially for Chinese businesses looking to expand overseas," said Lindsay Liu, founder and founding chair of UEA.
Organized by the London-based UEA, the event provided a platform for businesses, investors and professional organizations to exchange ideas, explore partnerships and strengthen connections across international markets. The gathering also featured an evening gala and an awards program recognizing achievements in business, leadership and innovation. ■
