RABAT, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Friday presided over a ceremony at the Royal Palace in Rabat to appoint the members of the country's new government.

The new government, headed by Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, Morocco's first female head of government, was appointed and sworn in at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the official news agency MAP reported.

El Mansouri formed a government backed by a parliamentary coalition comprising the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS).

Together, the four parties hold 207 seats in the newly elected 395-member House of Representatives.

The new government retains Nasser Bourita, minister of foreign affairs, African cooperation and Moroccan expatriates, and Abdelouafi Laftit, minister of the interior, in their posts. Fouzi Lekjaa, Morocco's football federation chief and former budget minister, was appointed as the economy and finance minister in the new government. ■
