DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania is seeking to strengthen international cooperation in technical and vocational education and training to expand skills development opportunities for young people and improve their competitiveness in the global labor market, a senior education official said Thursday.
Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology Wanu Hafidh Ameir said Tanzania's participation in the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in Tianjin, China, should translate into improved training opportunities for young people.
Ameir made the remarks while chairing a preparatory meeting for the Tanzanian delegation ahead of the conference, which runs from Oct. 15 to 17.
She said strategies and resolutions emerging from the conference should prioritize skills development, technology and training programs that enable young people to participate effectively in the modern economy and respond to evolving international labor market demands.
The conference seeks to strengthen international cooperation, promote experience-sharing and advance vocational education and training in response to emerging global opportunities and challenges, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said in a statement.
Following similar events in 2022 and 2024, the conference is organized by China's Ministry of Education, the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and the Tianjin municipal government. ■
