ANKARA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Turkish authorities have detained 59 suspects in operations targeting the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization across 22 provinces, the country's Interior Ministry said on Friday.
In a statement on its official account on social media platform X, the ministry said the operations were conducted by provincial gendarmerie commands in coordination with the Gendarmerie General Command's counter-terrorism department and chief public prosecutor's offices.
The suspects were identified as alleged IS members, individuals who provided financial support to the organization through affiliated persons and so-called aid organizations, and those who spread propaganda for the group on social media, according to the ministry.
The ministry said operations against IS activities and financial networks would continue to safeguard the country's peace and security, commending all forces and offices involved. ■
