DHAKA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lowered Bangladesh's economic growth forecast for the current fiscal year 2026-27 (July 2026-June 2027) to 3.2 percent, down from 4.3 percent projected in April, citing persistent economic challenges.

In its latest World Economic Outlook report, released Tuesday, the IMF projected inflation in the South Asian country at 10.9 percent.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh's GDP growth is projected at 3.4 percent in this fiscal year before accelerating to 3.9 percent in the next fiscal year, according to the World Bank's Bangladesh Development Update released last week.

The Bangladeshi parliament in June passed a record 9.38 trillion taka (nearly 77 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for the current fiscal year.

In line with the budget, the Bangladeshi government aims to reduce inflation to 7.5 percent and raise GDP growth to 6.5 percent in the fiscal year. ■
