ISLAMABAD, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- At least 28 people, including 27 students and a female teacher, were killed after the roof of a private school collapsed in Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Thursday, hospital officials said.
Spokesperson of the state-run Lady Reading Hospital, Muhammad Asim, told Xinhua that 19 students were also injured in the accident and at least five of them are in critical condition.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi told Xinhua that police are investigating the incident, but according to the initial probe, heavy rainfall had caused the roof of the two-story school building to collapse.
He added that the rescue operation had concluded after teams cleared all the debris and confirmed that no more injured children remained at the scene. ■
