BRATISLAVA, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Slovak parliament on Wednesday passed the state budget draft for 2027, which projects a general government budget deficit of 4.94 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), up from an expected 4.37 percent this year.
According to the News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR), of the 78 MPs present for the vote, 76 voted in favor of the budget, while two abstained.
State budget revenues are projected to reach 27.91 billion euros (31.18 billion U.S. dollars) in 2027, while expenditures are expected to total 35.66 billion euros (39.84 billion dollars). This would result in a deficit of 7.75 billion euros (8.66 billion dollars).
General government revenues are forecast at 63.34 billion euros (70.77 billion dollars) next year, against expenditures of 70.78 billion euros (79.08 billion dollars). This would leave a deficit of 7.44 billion euros (8.31 billion dollars), equivalent to 4.94 percent of GDP.
The government aims to reduce the deficit to 4.5 percent of GDP in 2028 and 4 percent in 2029, a plan that will require additional fiscal consolidation measures, according to the Slovak Finance Ministry. ■
