SINGAPORE, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Two Singapore-registered container vessels were reportedly struck by unknown projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday and Wednesday, Singapore time, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said Wednesday.

The vessel GFS PRIDE sustained damage and caught fire before sinking, the authority said in a statement. All 21 crew members were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

The second vessel, GFS GISELLE, sustained hull damage but was able to reach a safe anchorage under its own propulsion. All 22 crew members were safe, with no injuries reported, the MPA said.

No Singaporeans were aboard either vessel, it added.

The authority said it was in contact with the vessels' management company and was closely monitoring the situation.

The MPA expressed deep concern over continued attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. ■
