RIYADH, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced on Tuesday night that it had intercepted and destroyed six missiles and three drones in various parts of Saudi Arabia.
In a series of statements posted on social media platform X, coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Malki said the coalition forces had intercepted and destroyed one ballistic missile launched by the Houthi group toward Dhahran and another targeting Haradh, an administrative center in Al-Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province.
In a subsequent statement, Al-Malki said that debris from the interception of the missile targeting Dhahran fell in a residential area, adding that the relevant authorities were handling the incident on site.
Later on Tuesday, the coalition announced the interception and destruction of four cruise missiles and three drones in the Riyadh region and southern Saudi Arabia.
On the same day, the Saudi Press Agency reported that Qatar and Kuwait renewed their condemnation of Houthi attacks targeting civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia during two separate phone calls received by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.
During the calls, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Kuwait's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah discussed the latest developments in the region with the Saudi minister and renewed their condemnation of what was described as the "heinous attacks" by the Houthi group targeting civilian facilities in the kingdom.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) discussed regional developments and efforts to maintain security and stability during a phone call on Tuesday, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, the UAE official strongly condemned attacks by the Houthi group targeting civilians and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
The developments came amid a sharp escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, with the Houthis intensifying missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia and Saudi forces stepping up strikes on Houthi-held areas in Yemen.
A Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday killed more than a dozen people and injured over 300, according to Saudi authorities. ■
