MOSCOW, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Defense Ministry said Wednesday that its overnight strikes targeted Ukrainian energy and communications infrastructure in Kiev, the Kiev region and the Kharkov region.

The ministry said the strikes hit the ATM Ukrsibbank data center in Kiev, as well as several power facilities, including the Darnytsia CHP-4, Kievskaya CHP-5 and Kievskaya CHP-6 combined heat and power plants, the Trypilska and Zmiivska thermal power plants, and the Kievskaya electrical substation.

The ministry said the facilities were linked to Ukraine's military infrastructure and supplied electricity to military facilities and military-industrial facilities in Kiev and the surrounding regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media that Russia had launched attacks on energy and critical infrastructure facilities using 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions.

The strikes damaged 26 facilities in Ukraine's power system and four oil and gas facilities, leaving at least 600,000 people without electricity and causing casualties, Zelensky said. ■
