PHNOM PENH, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia secured 5.92 billion U.S. dollars in fixed-asset investment approvals during the first nine months of 2026, marking a significant surge in economic activity, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) said on Wednesday.
Between January and September, the CDC greenlit 382 investment projects, which are projected to generate approximately 217,000 new jobs across the Southeast Asian nation.
While the industrial sector remained the primary driver of investment, the CDC highlighted accelerating growth in other key areas, including agriculture and agro-industry, tourism, and infrastructure.
"This indicates the continued diversification of investment activities in Cambodia and demonstrates strong investor confidence in the country's business environment," the CDC said in a press release.
Penn Sovicheat, secretary of state and spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, attributed the massive influx of foreign direct investment to Cambodia's expanding trade network. Key drivers include the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement and bilateral free trade agreements with China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.
He said that these fresh capital inflows will introduce advanced technologies, boost local productivity, and create critical employment opportunities for the Cambodian population. ■
