RIYADH, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia plans to raise its East-West Pipeline's throughput capacity to around 10 million barrels per day in the coming years, Saudi Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz said Monday.

Abdulaziz made the remarks during a ministerial dialogue at the 25th World Petroleum Council Energy Congress in Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Abdulaziz said development plans were under consideration to upgrade pumping stations, transmission pipelines, and the gas system to further expand the pipeline's throughput capacity.

He said the current energy crisis had exposed vulnerabilities in supply chains, stressing that developing alternative transport routes and preparing for potential supply disruptions were essential for energy security.

Speaking at the event, Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Haitham Al Ghais said the Saudi pipeline was important for global energy supply security. ■
