BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Lanus continued its impressive form with a 2-0 home win over Velez Sarsfield in Argentina's Clausura tournament on Monday.
Sasha Marcich put his side ahead with a 59th-minute strike and Tomas Marchiori doubled the lead with a 95th-minute own goal.
Velez controlled 50% of the possession but lacked a cutting edge in attack as it suffered its first loss of the campaign.
Lanus has now won four and drawn one of its past five league matches, rising to fifth in the Zone A standings with 20 points, one behind fourth-placed Velez.
In Monday's only other Argentine top-flight fixture, Gimnasia Mendoza edged to a 1-0 home win over Newell's Old Boys. ■
