DOHA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said Tuesday that the country would press ahead with its energy expansion projects despite damage to some facilities in regional conflict and disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Addressing the Shura Council, the emir said the closure of the strait and direct damage to energy facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City had disrupted a significant portion of Qatar's exports.
He said the economic impact was concentrated in the energy sector, while non-hydrocarbon sectors continued to grow, accounting for about 80 percent of the country's real gross domestic product (GDP).
He reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to expanding its liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity, saying work at the North Field gas project was on schedule. ■
