NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- One person died and several others were injured in a roller coaster incident at an amusement park in the U.S. state of Georgia on Monday, authorities said.
The incident occurred at Six Flags Over Georgia in Cobb County, northwest of Atlanta, shortly before 4 p.m. local time (2000 GMT), according to police.
The Cobb County Police Department said in a statement that officers assigned to the park, along with uniformed patrol officers, responded to the scene.
The park's spokesperson said that the "park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation."
The spokesman added that the park had "temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks."
Witnesses said they saw a man fall from the roller coaster and strike parts of the ride multiple times before hitting the ground, NBC reported.
Video showed riders being evacuated off the roller coaster after it stopped mid-ride.
Police have yet to release further details about the incident, and an investigation is underway. ■
