BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. side should stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular media briefing on Tuesday.
The one-China principle is a basic norm governing international relations and a prevailing consensus of the international community as well as the political foundation of China-U.S. relations, Mao noted.
"The U.S. side should abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiques, handle the Taiwan question carefully, and stop sending wrong signals to 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces," the spokesperson said. ■
