TEHRAN, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The navy of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said Monday its forces hit another "violating" supertanker in the Strait of Hormuz earlier in the day.
In a statement published on the IRGC's official news outlet Sepah News, the navy said the oil tanker, which had turned off its navigation system and sought to exit the strait while disregarding warnings from the Iranian naval forces, was set on fire following the strike.
It added the vessel was the third "violating" supertanker within the past two days to have suffered an explosion while attempting to "disrupt order and security" in the waterway.
The navy warned that any cooperation by commercial ships and oil tankers with the U.S. Army in the strait and the Gulf will be met with its forces' "decisive" action.
Iran tightened its grip on the Strait of Hormuz on Feb. 28, barring safe passage of vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States following their joint strikes on Iranian territory. ■
