SANAA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and seven others injured in Saudi airstrikes in northern Yemen's Al-Jawf province on Monday, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The airstrikes hit "a government compound and a residential house" in Khabb wa ash-Sha'af district, a sprawling area in Al-Jawf near the border with Saudi Arabia, the channel said.

Five children and a woman were among those killed, while seven other people were injured, al-Masirah reported.

It said the casualty figures were preliminary and condemned the strikes, accusing what it called "Saudi aggression" of targeting civilian and government facilities controlled by the group.

There was no immediate comment from Saudi Arabia on the reported strikes or casualties.

The reported attack came amid an intensifying exchange of cross-border strikes between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition. The Houthis have stepped up missile and drone attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia, while the coalition has carried out heavy airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas across Yemen.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and much of the country's north. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in the conflict in 2015 in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government. ■
