ANKARA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has evacuated four camps in northern Iraq as part of Türkiye's ongoing process to end the group's activities, Turkish broadcaster NTV reported on Monday.
Citing Turkish security sources, NTV said the four camps are located in the Baze area of the Metina region.
The evacuation follows other developments linked to the broader process, including efforts to integrate Syria's Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces with the Syrian government and the reported evacuation of PKK positions in the Sinjar region of northern Iraq.
Türkiye's parliament on Aug. 10 approved a legal framework for the disarmament and reintegration of the PKK, a key step toward ending a decades-long conflict.
In May 2025, the PKK announced its decision to disarm and disband, following a call by its founder Abdullah Ocalan to end the armed struggle. ■
