RIYADH, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said Sunday that a new attack on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh caused injuries.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, GACA said the attack resulted in injuries and that damage assessments and safety inspections of airport facilities are underway in coordination with relevant authorities.

Earlier on Sunday, the Saudi-led coalition said a projectile had struck a passenger terminal at King Khalid International Airport.

An assault with an unknown projectile struck Terminal 4 at King Khalid International Airport, coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Malki said on X.

Air defenses intercepted and destroyed a missile near the airport, and a fire resulting from the attack is being handled at the site, he said.

Blasts were heard Sunday afternoon near the airport, with smoke briefly seen rising, according to a Xinhua correspondent.

The strikes came a day after an attack targeting the same airport killed 12 people and injured 309 others, according to GACA. ■
