NOUAKCHOTT, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani reappointed El Moctar Ould Djay as prime minister on Friday and tasked him with forming a new government, hours after his cabinet resigned, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.
The presidency announced the appointment in a decree issued Friday. The president then received Ould Djay at the presidential palace in Nouakchott and asked him to propose a new cabinet.
Speaking after the meeting, Ould Djay said he would immediately begin preparing a proposal for the formation of a new government.
He said the new government should possess the necessary political and technical expertise to continue implementing the president's "My Ambition for the Nation" programme and address the challenges of the current global crisis, particularly by strengthening social protection for low-income citizens.
Ould Djay submitted his government's resignation to the president on Friday morning. He was first appointed prime minister on Aug. 2, 2024. ■
