LONDON, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A man was seriously injured after being attacked by a tiger at a wildlife park in northern England on Saturday, prompting an evacuation and the closure of the park, local police said.
South Yorkshire Police said the man had entered a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, near Doncaster, where he was subsequently attacked by the animal.
Police confirmed that the tiger remained inside its enclosure and posed no further danger to the public. Officers were working to contact the injured man's family.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it received an emergency call at around 1:30 p.m. local time. Two ambulances, an air ambulance and a doctor were dispatched to the scene.
The wildlife park said emergency procedures were activated immediately following the incident and that it was cooperating with authorities to establish the circumstances.
The park was evacuated and will remain closed on Sunday. Police officers remained at the scene as investigations continued. ■
