MANILA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A man was killed, and his wife was severely injured after a pickup truck driven by a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) staffer collided with their tricycle on Friday, local media reported on Saturday.
Local police said the couple was on their way to pick up their child, who worked at a fast-food restaurant, when the collision occurred at midnight on Friday.
The 33-year-old PCG member allegedly failed to notice the tricycle on the rainy night, appeared intoxicated, and was reportedly speeding before the crash, said local police.
After hitting the tricycle, the pickup truck hit a jeepney, whose driver was reportedly unharmed.
The PCG staffer is in custody. ■
