LONDON, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Two Latvian men have been arrested on suspicion of breaching security at a British Royal Air Force (RAF) base, Sky News reported Thursday.

The two men, aged 36 and 32, were arrested inside the base perimeter of RAF Molesworth in the early hours of Thursday. Both are identified as residents in Britain, according to the report.

The incident came to light when Ministry of Defence Police officers conducting security patrols at the base discovered an abandoned vehicle at around 10 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Wednesday.

Officers subsequently discovered a small breach in the perimeter fence and located the two men, who were arrested at around 2 a.m. (0100 GMT) on Thursday.

The suspects were taken to a police station on suspicion of violating Section 4 of the National Security Act 2023, which covers entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to Britain, the report said.

"There is nothing to suggest this incident is connected to the events at RAF Fairford," Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, was quoted as saying.

On Sept. 27, British police evacuated homes near RAF Fairford. Seven people have since been arrested on suspicion of explosives offenses and preparing an act of terror. The seven suspects, all in their 20s, have been released on bail.

The United States has withdrawn all its B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford over security concerns about suspected terror plots targeting the base. ■
